INFORMATION
Aaron Ohlmann is a two time Emmy-nominated director and producer who has lived and worked in Hollywood, Bollywood, Nollywood, and Beijing.
Recently he produced and directed the premiere episode of Trafficked With Mariana van Zeller, NatGeo's highest-rated show of the year.
Previously he produced the Netflix Series Larry Charles’ Dangerous World of Comedy, and produced and directed television for VICELAND and VICE on HBO, including episodes of Black Market: Dispatches shot in Cameroon, Japan and China.
He spent a year working at the UN’s International Criminal Tribunal for the Rwanda, where he developed projects like this video and an online archive created with Folkert Gorter and David Clair.
Together with Nirvan Mullick he directed the anthem video for the Paris Climate Conference featuring Jack Black, and produced a follow up film featuring Morgan Freeman. The videos received over ten million hits and helped generate 1.4 billion Twitter impressions. He also co-directed the UN’s video campaign for the first World Humanitarian Summit featuring Daniel Craig, Michael Douglas, Forest Whitaker, and Rosario Dawson.
In Cuba he partnered with Jesse Acevedo to produce and edit Viva Cuba Libre, a feature about the controversial hiphop duo Los Aldeanos. Now available on iTunes, it was promoted by Amnesty International and received the DocU Award Nomination at IDFA.
He made three features with Rene Daalder, including a film about artist Bas Jan Ader cited by Art Info Magazine as one of the top 20 must-see art films. Also in collaboration with Rene was The Terrestrials about LSD guru Timothy Leary, and an upcoming film about architect Rem Koolhaas.
He’s created music videos for YACHT and Fol Chen, experiments for Beijing’s White+, and a video for General Pype that was banned from MTV Africa.
He is a managing partner at Special Order, where has overseen a dozen projects for MasterClass, including classes with Ringo Starr, St. Vincent, and Yo-Yo Ma. He also creates branded content for companies and nonprofits, including projects like this, that, and the other for VISA, this for Intel, a web series for Scion, a product launch video for Motorola, a concert film for Nintendo, Caine’s Arcade 2 for the Imagination Foundation, and this & that for TED.
Special Order’s most recent doc series, Cannabis Buyers Club, will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June of 2022.
